A US politician just disclosed the purchase of multiple new stocks, including two in biotechnology and research – a sector she oversees in Congress.
Maryland Democrat Representative April McClain Delaney has reported buying up to $30,000 worth of shares in Labcorp Holdings Inc. (LH) and up to $15,000 worth of shares in Bio-Techne Corp. (TECH) amid other transactions.
The move caught the eye of the Nancy Pelosi Tracker, a popular politician investment tracking platform with 1.2 million followers on X.
The attention is due to Delaney’s seat on the House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology.
Both Labcorp and Bio-Techne operate within the biotech sector, although their focuses differ.
Bio-Techne directly develops and sells life science reagents, instruments, and services for biotech research and bioprocessing, while Labcorp provides comprehensive laboratory diagnostics, genomic testing, and drug development services that support pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
It is fully legal for US lawmakers to invest in stocks within industries they oversee through congressional committees, provided they comply with the STOCK Act’s requirement to disclose transactions exceeding $1,000 within 45 days via periodic transaction reports.
Delaney’s other purchases included BJ’s Wholesale Club (BJ), Brown & Brown (BRO), Nasdaq Inc. (NDAQ), Paychex (PAYX), and Tractor Supply (TSCO).
Partial sales included Fortune Brands (FBIN), IDEXX Labs (IDXX), Teledyne Technologies (TDY), and Middleby Corp (MIDD).
