Scammer Posing As JPMorgan Chase Convinces Woman To Withdraw $12,000 From Bank Account, Hand It to ‘FBI Agent’: Report

An elderly woman has lost $12,000 after a fraudster pretending to work at JPMorgan Chase duped her into thinking her account was in trouble.

The 78-year-old victim says she received a call from a person claiming to be a representative of the banking giant’s fraud department, reports the local outlet Cleveland.com.

The victim says the caller warned her that someone was attempting to withdraw $9,000 from her Chase savings account.

To stop the fraudulent transaction, the scammer told her that she had to withdraw $12,000 in cash and hand it over to an “FBI agent” for safekeeping.

The victim says she rushed to a local Chase branch and followed the scammer’s instructions to keep her phone inside her pocket while staying on the line.

After making the withdrawal, she was told to head to a Dunkin’ Donuts branch, where a black SUV pulled up. She says she met someone masquerading as “Agent Kyle,” who flashed a badge for identification.

After handing over the cash, Agent Kyle left. She became suspicious after the scammer told her that the problem involved setting up a virtual wallet.

Police say the victim has filed a fraud report and the case is now under investigation.
