Woman Sues JPMorgan Chase After Scammers Drain $1,300,000 From Bank Account: Report

A woman in Florida is reportedly suing JPMorgan Chase after scammers extracted over $1 million from her account.

Eighty-year-old Olga Ponorovsky alleges the bank failed to protect her and her funds when she fell victim to an investment scam, reports The Sun.

Ponorovsky, a retired engineer, first came across the scam in September 2023 when she saw an advertisement she believed to be legitimate.

Con artists convinced her to make 30 separate transitions over five months totaling to $1.3 million under the guise that she would be promised returns. She never received any funds.

Ponorvosky says the bank marked the large in-person withdrawals as “suspicious” without ever taking action.

She also claims the bank failed to report the suspicious activity to Florida’s Central Abuse Hotline, which is required by state law.

As stated by Florida attorney Robert W. Georges, according to the report.

“Florida is among the states to have enacted specific statutory protections against these types of financial scams, and banks have a legal and ethical obligation to strictly adhere to these laws to prevent the financial ruin of their senior customers.”

Chase has filed a motion to dismiss the case, stating that Ponorovsky made the transactions out of her own free will.
